Copy WordPress to the new webspace using a migration plugin or a backup. If you have questions, support will help.

Test first
With an entry in your hosts file, you can check the site on the new server before switching the domain.

Switch domain & email
Update DNS records or transfer the domain using the auth code, set up mailboxes – then cancel your old contract.

Questions about switching web hosts
Can I switch hosts without downtime?
Yes. If you set up and test the website on the new server first and only switch the domain afterwards, your site stays online the whole time.
What happens to my emails when I switch?
You create the mailboxes with us beforehand and then switch the domain. You can transfer existing messages in your email program. Our support team will help you with this.
When should I cancel my old contract?
Only once your website, domain and emails are running at the new host. That way, there's no gap.

Questions about web hosts in Germany
Does my host have to be based in Germany?
Legally, a server location in the EU is sufficient. It simplifies data protection and ensures short loading times in German-speaking countries.
Does a server in the EU automatically make my website GDPR-compliant?
No. It's an important foundation. The privacy policy, legal notice and, if applicable, a cookie banner are still the website operator's responsibility.
